Allan Nielsen LOGAN, Utah - The brightest stars always burn out the fastest - and Allan was among the brightest. A person who abhorred mediocrity and the common place, he surrounded himself with beauty and the unusual. Allan's star burned out Nov. 14, 2000, after coping with polycythemia vera for several years, the result of which was a massive stroke. This rare condition that affects five in a million, causes extreme fatigue, but he never let it stop him. He was a successful businessman, and with his partner of 27 years, Merlin Harker, he devoted himself to helping people through Shangri-La. He was born April 6, 1942, in Malad, Idaho, to Reed Nielsen and Isabelle Owen Nielsen and was raised on a beautiful ranch in Portage, Utah, where his love of all things natural developed. His father, brother Owen, and nephew Scott passed away before him. Left to keep his spirit alive are his mother Isabelle, sister Jeanne, brother Ray, friends Merlin and Scott, and coworkers D.D. and Barbara.
