GEORGE, Utah - LaVon W. Erwin, 97, passed away February 28, 2003, in St. George, Utah. She was born January 16, 1906, in Malad, Idaho, to George Jones and Nellie Griffin Williams. She married Edward L. Hess March 31, 1928, in Malad, Idaho, and later divorced. She graduated from Malad High School and worked for her aunt. She married and had one daughter. In 1938, the family moved to American Falls, Idaho, to manage the Indian Springs Natatorium. World War II found LaVon in Salt Lake City, Utah, working at Hill Field for the duration. They moved back to American Falls, and she worked at the Log Cabin Café for many years. She married Glenn Erwin November 17, 1960, and moved to Aberdeen, Idaho, where they operated The Pastime. Glenn died in December 1972, and LaVon went to work at the Trading Post. In 1987, she retired to St. George to live with her daughter. She loved to crochet when she wasn't working, and delighted in attending her family reunion each year. She is survived by her daughter, Maryellen Vaughan; four grandchildren, Barbara (Rob) Bonner, Kathryn Vaughan, Nancy (David) Dean and James Vaughan; four great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; brother, Elden Williams; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers and two sisters. Graveside services will be at Fallsview Cemetery, American Falls, Idaho, Friday, March 7, 2003, 1 p.m. Visitation will be Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., prior to services at Davis Mortuary, American Falls, Idaho. A celebration of life will follow services at the Melody Lanes in American Falls. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of The Kolob Care Center and to The Utah Heritage Hospice for the support and excellent care given to LaVon. Services are under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, St. George, Utah.
