Kay Darrington, faithful companion, devoted father and grandfather, brother and above all our genuine friend, was called home Saturday, February 15, 2003, as a result of an automobile accident in Clearfield, Utah. Kay was born August 1, 1928 in Elba, Idaho to Lorenzo Darrington and Ruby Olsen. He married his high school sweetheart Althora "Sophie" Bell on May 19, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. Kay lived in Stone, Idaho and Snowville, Utah prior to settling in Syracuse in 1963. He sold furniture for R.C. Willey Furniture for 26 years. Upon retiring he opened "K's" Softwater Sales in Layton, which he operated for 11 years. No one was a stranger to Kay. Rather, they were simply a friend he had yet to introduce himself to. He acquired friends wherever he went. Kay, was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was currently serving as High Priest group leader in the Syracuse 6th Ward. He served five years as a dedicated temple worker in the Ogden Temple. He served as a Counselor in the Snowville and Curlew Ward Bishoprics and on the High Council of the Syracuse South Stake and rendered continuous service in the Church and community throughout his life. Kay revered his wife, cherished his daughters and sons-in-law, and utterly adored his grandchildren. He spent his time enriching their lives and expressing his undying love through endless hours of service. He was our "Mr. Fix-it". His illustrious Christmas light display was his passion and gift to everyone. It is incomprehensible how many lives Kay has touched and impossible to express how much he will be missed. Kay is survived by his eternal companion, Sophie, four daughters and their spouses, Sandra Kaye Peters (John), Betty Jo "B.J." Warnick (Kent), Connie Marsell-Jones, Debra Peterson (Mark), 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and siblings, Rulon, John, LaRene and Anne. Kay is preceded in death by his beloved children CarolAnn and Davey who passed away in their youth from Cystic Fibrosis, his parents, three brothers, Max, Keith, Kenneth, and his sister LaVerne. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 20, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Syracuse Utah West Stake Center, 1600 So. 4500 W., Syracuse. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6 to 8p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Kay's life to the Primary Children's Hospital for Cystic Fibrosis research.
