Semrad, 70, of Malad, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2002, in the Oneida County Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He never lost his sense of humor or smile, and his last thoughts were of his family. Paul was born October 4, 1931, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Pauline Winger. He was adopted by Joseph C. and Ethel Jarolin Semrad when he was 3 years old. He grew up and was educated in Arkansas and North Dakota, and then served three years in the Air Force. He married Carol Vaughn April 21, 1961, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. Paul worked as an auto body repairman for over 30 years for Ren’s Chevrolet in Malad. People enjoyed going to the body shop to enjoy his sense of humor, and he had a way of making friends quickly. His grandchildren enjoyed spending time with him and watching movies on the big-screen TV. Since Carol passed away and he retired, he became active at various events around town as well as four-wheeling and hunting. He especially enjoyed bingo night at the Legion with his best friend, Bruno (Jerry Jones). Paul’s zest for life will be missed by all that knew him, and he will never be forgotten. He is survived by one daughter, Shauna Madson of Logan, Utah; two sons, Jeff (Laurene) Semrad and Mike (Avis) Semrad, both of Malad; one brother, Vic (Verona) Semrad, two sisters, Angie (Jim) Gaspers and Rosalie (Pete) Ihry, all of Hope, North Dakota; 13 grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, and his parents. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2002, at noon in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel, 1250 W. 1100 N. Friends may call at the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Malad this evening, Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Malad Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion, Ernest W.
