McKee passed away in Clearfield, Utah, on Tuesday, December 11, 2001, nine days after the celebration of her 96th birthday. She was born in Malad City, Idaho on December 2,1905, the second daughter and sixth child of George L. Richards and Sarah Ann Jenkins. Immediately following her marriage to Frederick LaVern Gehring on December 13, 1928, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, they moved to Hood River, Oregon, where they spent most of their 31 years together prior to his death in 1959, and where they raised their two daughters. Though the move from Idaho to Oregon was a hard transition as a young bride, she grew to love it as "home." Her friends there became her family away from home and all have preceded her in death. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served wherever and whenever asked. Her service included teaching as well as presidents in both the Young Women"s program and the Relief Society. The highlight of her service to the Lord was the privilege given her to serve two stake missions. In 1973, and at the age of 68, Vernal left Oregon to make her home in Utah with her two daughters and their families. It was while residing in Vernal, Utah, she met S. Harold McKee. They were married on June 5, 1982 and resided in Vernal until Harold"s death on March 25, 1997. She then lived in the homes of her two daughters in Layton, where she was lovingly cared for until injuries required skilled nursing care. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and a sister, her husbands, a daughter, Kathleen Barker (Keith) and three granddaughters, Deborah, Teresa and Lisa. She is survived by her daughter, Myrle Crown (John), of Layton, two grandsons, J. Bradley Crown (Katy), of Boise, Idaho and Robert L. Crown (Lisa), of Layton, a granddaughter, Kelli Barker Whitesides (Shawn), also of Layton, as well as twelve great grandchildren. Family and friends may call at Lindquist"s Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road, Friday, December 15, 2001 from 5-7 p.m. Graveside services and interment will be at the Idlewild Cemetery, Hood River, Oregon.
