I recently learned that my great great grandfather, David Phillips Stephens, was LDS Pencader branch president before he emigrated to America. This means that he likely knew all of your ancestors who were his contemporaries. My dad, Francis Illum (son of Carl Illum and Rachel Deschamps), grew up in the house across the road from where Mitchell and Olive Deschamps live in St. John in warmer months. Of course, it was a log house in those days. I've included a couple of photos of Carmarthen. You take the BritRail system to Carmarthen and then a bus from Carmarthen through the hilly pass to the tiny village of Pencader. It's a beautiful trip! Some have visited Pencader and not been told by residents in the vicinity of Alltfechan Terrace just which house in the row of houses on the Terrace was occupied by the David Phillips Stephens family. It's the last house in the row on the East side of the Terrace, the one painted the lighter color. Niether of those on the West side were occupied by our family, according to all residents in the vicinity. It is well known in the Valley, especially by the older generation, that Mormon missionaries came and "took away half our town". They have also heard stories about Evan Stephens leading the Tabernacle Choir. Feedback would be exciting! Steve Illum Springfield, Missouri stevef_i@yahoo.com
