Id Obits Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Id/OneidaObits/75 Surname: Van Horn, Ward ------------------------- Idaho State Journal, Thursday, December 28, 2000 JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. - Betty Van Horn, formerly from American Falls, passed away at her home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, on Dec. 27, 2000, from a short battle with cancer. Betty Van Horn was born on Jan. 20, 1927. to George Merlin and Viola Ward in Malad City, Idaho. She was the second oldest of five daughters. Betty attended school in Malad. During the summer she helped with the family sheep herd up on Mink Creek, where she learned to enjoy the outdoors. Betty married Boyd Van Horn on July 20, 1946, at American Falls, Idaho. When they were first married, they lived on the Van Horn family farm in Arbon Valley during the summer and American Falls in the winter. While they were living in Arbon, she had three children, Diana, Barbara and Gary. Later Boyd was working construction; Betty was moved to Promontory, Utah, where they lived for three years. After that, they moved to Malad for one year before moving back to American Falls, Idaho. In 1961 Betty began working for Lamb-Weston, a potato processing plant. She worked for Lamb-Weston for 30 years, until her retirement at the age of 62. Betty enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with her husband and children. In 1978 she lost her husband of 32 years. Later she kept company with Harvey Anderson from Arbon, where she still enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. While with Harvey, Betty also took up 4-wheeler riding and snowmobile riding. After Harvey passed away, Betty moved back to Malad and later up to Jackson, Wyoming, where she enjoyed retirement and enjoyed activities at the senior center. While up in Jackson, she also made many new friends. Betty is preceded in death by her husband Boyd and both her parents. She is survived by her three children, Diana Hernandez (David), Barbara Valdez (John) and Gary Van Horn (Sabrina); four sisters. Melba Deschamp (Rene), Neva Jones (Cleland), Judy Jones (George), all of Malad, Idaho; and Lois Davis of Riverdale, Utah; numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are being made by Valley Mortuary, Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
