He was born December 2, 1926, the son of William Walter and Amelia Lorena Whitehead Spencer. He was raised in Malad, Idaho, where he attended school and made his home. He served in World War II, in the Navy from 1945 to 1946, as Seaman Second Class, and was drafted into the Korean conflict into the Army from 1951 to 1953, and achieved the rank of corporal, and was honorably discharged. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His heart was in his home and farm, and he leaves behind a great legacy of integrity and hard work. He was married to Audrey Rachel Hawkins and had three children; they were later divorced. He married his eternal sweetheart, Wanda Marie Thomas on March 2, 1984, and was sealed for time and eternity March 2, 1985, in the Logan, Utah temple. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda, by his father, William Walter Spencer, his mother, Amelia Lorena Whitehead Spencer, brothers, Raymond Whitehead Spencer, Karl Conrad Spencer, and sister, Hazel Lorene Hakes, and great-granddaughter, Micaela Nicole Hernandez. He is survived by his three children, Melvin (Myung-Ha) Spencer of North Carolina, Rachel Suzanne (Bruce) Barkley of Arizona, Robert (Shannon) of Utah; stepchildren, Rex Hall, Robert Hall, Sharon (Wendall) Balls, Annette (Doug) Peterson, Janet (David) Wood, Guy Ann (Vint) Larsen, Kristi (Robert) Smith; brothers, Joseph Spencer, Loren Spencer and Ralph Spencer; and sister, Emma Ward; 30 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in Malad, Idaho, on July 25, 2002, at noon in the Malad LDS Third Ward building, 400 N. 200 W. Friends will be received at Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Malad, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, July 24, and one hour prior to the services on Thursday, July 25 at the Horsley Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Malad City Cemetery.
