Surnames: Lowman, Wadsworth Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Qg.2ADE/604 Message Board Post: The Idaho Statesman Don A. Lowman passed away, Friday, July 18, 2003, in Boise, Idaho, of an aneurysm, with his family at his side. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, at the White Mortuary, Chapel by the Park, in Twin Falls. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Jerome Golf Course. Don was born July 2, 1921, in Malad, Idaho, son of Jesse Lee and Lucy Hannah Lowman. He was raised in Pocatello Idaho where he graduated from High School 1940. He spent a lot of time growing up on his Grandparent's ranch in Malad. He loved to ride horses and get into trouble with his cousin Dee. Don married Myrtle (Mert) Wadsworth on January 1, 1942 after a long courtship (2 weeks) and people said it wouldn't last, 61 years later they figure they proved all the skeptics wrong. He entered the US Navy on August 18, 1942, and proudly served our country during World War II until he was discharged on November 11, 1945. Their first son (Gary) was born while he was in the service. Don returned from the war to rejoin his wife and son. They resided in Pocatello, Idaho, where their other two children (Brent and Karla) were born. Don joined his father in working as a plasterer and then worked as a meatcutter for Safeway for several years. They moved to Jerome in 1955 where He started an insurance Agency with his brother, Jess. Later he quit the insurance business for awhile and sold meat for Falls Brand Packing. He got back into insurance and remained in that business until he semi-retired from AFLAC Insurance company. In 1997, Dad and Mom bought a 2nd home in Yuma Az, in order to get out of the cold Idaho winters. They thoroughly enjoyed the warm winter climate, and their new found friends from all over the US and Canada. He loved to fish and hunt in his earlier years with his father, brother and sons. Other times it was spoiling his daughter who everyone thought was called "Dolly". His one true passion however was golf. He began at a very young age in the caddy ranks at the Country Club in Pocatello, Idaho. As he grew up and played in as many tourneys as he could (with a lot of trophies to show for it) and with his competitive fire, silky putting stroke and Quail high tee shots, he became one of the better amateurs in the state. To the very end he played almost daily with his friends, "the cronies". He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke. He was a very loving man and his family meant the whole world to him. He is survived by his wife Mert, of Jerome, Son Gary (Cathy) Lowman of Meridian, Son Brent Lowman of Pocatello, daughter Karla Honeywell (Bruce) of Anchorage, Alaska. Four grandchildren, Angela (Sean) Bolton, of Seattle, Washington; Todd (Suzanne) Lowman of Meridian, Brad (Gina) Lowman, of Boise Tim (Misty) Percifield, of Meridian and Eight great-grandchildren, Joel, Michael, Tyson, Kylie, Jake, Tanner, Erin. Nieces, Nancy (Rolin) Kreuchi of Peoria, AZ; Dorinda Judd of Visalia, Ca.; Nephews: Lowell (Susan) Mellor, Peoria, Az.; Kent (Susan) Mellor of Milford, Utah; Dale (Diane) Mellor of Omaha, Nebraska. He is proceeded in death by his parents Jesse (Jack) & Lucy Lowman, Sisters, Lillian Mellor, Gwenivere Lowman, and brother Jess Lowman.
