Has everyone heard that Ancestry is closing down the Rootsweb mailing lists in March? Is the admin of this list going to try and migrate the group somewhere else? We have started a new Idaho Genealogy message board/mailing list at "Groups.io" ( https://groups.io/g/IdahoGenealogy ) We want to place links to any county groups or specialized Idaho lists or groups on the home page. Of Course, anyone interested in Idaho genealogy is encouraged to join this new group I hope to hear from you RandyC
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Nellie D. KITT and Grandma BRENCHLY which was taken at the Chehalis Art Studio in Chehalis, WA. The two are identified as "Norma's maternal grandmother and sister". Someone has also written "For Henry, Mother & Granddaughter". Nellie's middle name is difficult to make out on the back of the photograph could be "Davis" or "Davies". The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Grandma BRENCHLY likely in her 50's or 60's and Nellie about 3 years old. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding these individuals and their families: Nellie D. or Margaret KITT was born 17 Jun 1907 in Lincoln Co., WA to parents George Albert KITT (1874-1935) and Lillie Rose LYNCH (1880-1914). Nellie was one of 5 children born to this couple including, George Francis "Jock" Jr.; Unnamed Infant; Norma Jean; Nellie D.; and Evelyn Alice KITT, all born between 1897 and 1911. Nellie married Rodney Mertz MUZZY (1909-1984) on 1 Jul 1930 in Kootenai Co., ID. Nellie died 23 Apr 1987 in Seattle, WA. Nellie's Mother Lillian Rose LYNCH was the daughter of Daniel LYNCH and Elizabeth Mary GOULTER JOHNSON LYNCH BRENCHLEY who was b. 9 Nov 1846 in Hampshire, England and d. 19 Apr 1925 in Harrington, WA. Elizabeth was married to Hugh JOHNSON (1833-1877) and together they had 5 children including, Henry J.; Katherine; Nellie; Elizabeth; and Daniel Hugh JOHNSON, all born between 1866 and 1871. She then married Daniel LYNCH and they had two children, Francis Marion LYNCH and Lillian Rose LYNCH born in 1876 and 1879 respectively. Her third marriage was to Richard BRENCHLEY (1833-1914). Census records provide the following details: 1910 census of Township 23 Range 36, Lincoln Co., WA: George A. KITT, age 34, married 13 years, born NV, parents born England, a Wheat Farmer Lillie R. KITT, wife, age 30, married 13 years, 4 children/3 living, born NV, parents born Ireland/England George F. KITT, son, age 12, born WA Norma J. KITT, dau, age 5, born WA Nellie D. MUZZY, wife, age 31, born WA, a Stenographer Belle MUZZY, Mother, age 60, a widow, born MN I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
I've "rescued" an old Ballard High School Yearbook from 1931 that originally belonged to sisters Sigrid and Esther MONSON of Seattle, WA. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding the sisters: Sigrid MONSON was b. 21 Apr 1913 in Tabor, Alberta, Canada to parents Iver Monson KVAMME (1886-1953) and Camilla Emily or Emilie SWANSON (1888-1967). The family moved to Seattle in 1922 and lived in the Ballard neighborhood. Sigrid was the oldest of six children born to this couple including, Sigrid, Esther MONSON MONUS; Helene Julia Marie MONSON VALOFF; Mabel Hildur Josephine; Elmer Wilbur or Wilber; and Myrtle Elizabeth MONSON KNOWLES. Sigrid died 3 Jun 2006 in Portland, OR and is buried in the Evergreen-Washelli Memorial Park Cemetery in Seattle, WA. Her sister Esther Constance MONSON was b. 4 Apr 1915 in Carriesville, Canada and married Gordon Alexander MONUS (1917-2013) and she died 12 Oct 2004 in Coeur d'Alene, ID and is buried in the Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene, ID. I'm hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old treasure can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
I've "rescued" an old Certificate of Naturalization belonging to Axel T. JANSAN or JENSEN or JANSON which was issued in Spokane, WA on 26 October 1892. Axel is a native of Sweden and the document is witnessed by Alfred LARSEN and Matt CHRISTENSEN and signed by Judge James Z. MOORE. The name is spelled two different within the certificate so I'm not sure which spelling is correct, though I suspect it could be any of the various spellings I've identified. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Axel and his family: Axel T. JANSON was b. 1863 in Sweden and came to the USA in 1887. Axel was married to Hannah JANSON and he died in Seattle, WA on 8 Oct 1943 Census records provide the following details: 1920 census of Houser, ID: Axel T. JANSON, age 56, born Sweden, parents born Sweden, to USA 1887 Hannah JANSON, wife, age 59, born Sweden Elsie JANSON, dau, age 19, born WA 1930 census of Hauser, ID: Axel T. JANSON, age 67, a widower, born 1863 in Sweden, parents born Sweden, to USA 1887 I'm hoping to be able to return the document to family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Millie and John ROCKNE taken at Mrs. F. E. Russell's Studio in either Canton or Harmony, MN. Likely taken in 1880's or 1890's. Note on back also indicates "John - Pastor in SD now retired" and "Millie retired as Matron of Home for the Aged in Coeur d'Alene Idaho". Millie appears to be about 8 years old at the time and John about 6 years old. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this family: Amelia "Millie" ROCKNE was b. 1882 and died in 1965 and is buried in the Forest Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene, ID. John Bennett ROCKNE was b. 1 Sept 1885 in Harmony, MN. It appears that he married twice, first he married Ida ANDERSON (b. 29 Sept 1888 in Steele Co. MN - d. 12 Sept 1917 in Fillmore Co. MN) on 3 or 4 Oct 1916 in Hennepin Co. MN. His second marriage was to Emma B. PETERSON (b. 28 Nov 1896 in Minnesota-d. 1978). John and Emma appear to have had at least 3 children including a son John Bennet ROCKNE (1933-2008). John died 22 Sept 1971 in Winona, MN and he is buried in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery in Rushford, MN. John's death certificate lists his Mother's maiden name as AMUNDSON. Census records provide the following details: 1910 census of Harmony, MN: - boarding in the home of Michel & Anna MCCARTY Amilia ROCKNE, age 26, born MN, parents born Norway, Saleslady at Dry Goods Store 1910 census of Northfield, MN: - at St. Olaf's College John B. You know Erma F Lawrence died 2009, so you must know her married name. She married Lyle Williams 16 August 1947 in King County, Washington. Seattle is in King County.Source, WA State Digital Archives. Erma F Williams died 03 April 2009 in Spokane. She is buried at Riverview Cemetery, Couer d' Alene, Idaho, plot C-344. Lyle F Williams was born 02 July 1918 in North Dakota, according to Find a Grave. He died 02 June 1996 in Spokane and buried beside Erma, same source. See your other thread re Ella C Eggers Lawrence for the 1920, 1930, and 1940 censuses that serve as the essential starting point for research of this family. It's against community guidelines to post idntifying information about living people, so let's bear that in mind. Order copies of the originals of Erma's marriage and death records to confirm her parents and birth date (14 January 1920) and birth place. Usually a small fee is charged, so this task has to stay on your own to-do list. Family Search website may yield more information. You could also post in a Washington state message board seeking an obit look up. Return to post the additional information you find. I think you'll find it satisfying to be your own best help (at least I hope so). We volunteer researchers can only do the easy stuff, searching online databases. Ordering records is more tricky and more labor intensive, making the results all the more exciting. Hope this helps. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Idaho Divorce Records and Marriage records for Kootenai County show that Leona E. Hudelson divorced her first husband Charles E. Hudelson on 22 Apr 1952 and married a man Arthur Dahkke on the same day. Is/was this normal in Kootenai in 1952? Might it be that this was the date the divorce/marriage was filed, and not necessarily the date on which they occurred? I live in North Carolina, so checking court records for divorce applications and marriage license applications isn't practical for me. Appreciate any insight an Idahoan can give me. Dave Hudelson

I've "rescued" an old photograph identified only with the name Mr. A. H. RICE of Latah, Spokane Co., Washington. The photograph is of two women and was taken at the Flaten Studio in Moorhead, MN. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with the younger woman in her teens and the other woman in her 40's at the time. In addition to his name there are instructions on the back of the photograph for another photograph of just the younger woman and a studio in Spokane, WA as well. I believe that this is a photograph of Mr. RICE'S wife and her Mother. I believe that Mr. RICE is Albert Hull RICE and the young woman in the photograph is his wife Ada WHITMARSH. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family: Ada Coddie "Edith" WHITMARSH was b. 1876 in Minnesota to parents George William WHITMARSH (1847-1915) and Mary Jane FLETCHER (b. 1 May 1852 Wisconsin-d. 26 Dec 1907 in Montana - dau of Henry FLETCHER and Elizabeth MINDER). Ada was one of 7 children born to this couple including, Millie F.; George Alfred; William; Ada; Elizabeth; Mildred; and Effie Jane WHITMARSH, all born between 1871 and 1882. Ada married Albert Moses Hull RICE (b. 6 Feb 1866 in Douglas Co. OR - son of John Evans RICE and Martha Jane LINVILLE) on 19 Mar 1894 in Kootenai, ID. The couple had 4 children including, Unnamed Son; Myrtle Ivy; Floyd Clinton; and John William RICE, all born between 1896 and 1906 in Latch, WA; Missoula, MT; and Kootenai, ID. Her husband Albert died 6 May 1945 in Missoula Co. MT and Edith d. 1942 and is buried in the Ronan Cemetery in Ronan, MT.
