Hey - they also have an 1880 census. It's available in text and Excel format by county, and like you said, there is a substantial amount of coding. I find that it is copyright by the State Board of Education, with the statement that use for profit is prohibited. The implication is that a non-profit like IDGENWEB could make use of this data. Nevertheless, I've sent a request asking for permission to make a version of this available that resolves the coding and makes it more useful for genealogists and local historians, perhaps in a searchable database. We will see what sort of response I get. Wouldn't it be great if every county could have access to a searchable database of all 1880 and 1900 census records for Idaho? I've got a rough design in mind that would allow searching broader than a single county, using proximity (e.g. Canyon and it's adjacent counties). Thanks again for point this out, Sharon. I'd never seen these!
