I have added Bonneville, Clearwater and Jefferson Counties to the list of adoptable counties in IDGENWEB, and have decided to at least temporarily adopt Fremont County as County Coordinator. All of these changes have resulted from a former coordinator who has not been making updates to the pages for years and has not been in communication with the project. I don't take this action lightly, but have worked very hard to try and establish some communication. One purpose of the new monthly roll calls is to make sure this sort of situation is not developing without any of us knowing it. And rest assured that unusual circumstances that lead to a dry spell in being able to take care of a county you hold and/or missing a roll call from time to time, will not lead to dismissal. There has been some discussion in USGENWEB about the possibility of requiring direct contact information (e.g. addresses and phone numbers) from CCs to allow contact in the event of an emergency, such as the complete breakdown of communication. The State Coordinators are already required to provide that to the National Coordinator. It is not a requirement at this time, but many of you have chosen to provide that sort of information to me. If you chose to do that, I promise I will not misuse the information, such as posting it online, providing to others, or making trivial use of it to contact you when electronic contact through email is working perfectly well. In fact, except for a couple of contacts with my Assistant State Coordinator I have never needed to do so, and that was only with prearrangement during travel. However, if I had the appropriate phone number, I would make use of it to contact anyone I was considering dismissing if email was not producing any responses, and if that didn't work I would try the regular mail route before taking any action. If you would like me to have that option, feel free to provide me with that information. Here is a summary of the adoptable counties and the three which have temporary coordinators at the present time. This is copied directly from the page: http://www.idgenweb.org/idgenweb_main_volunteers.php What counties are available for "adoption?" We are looking for enthusiastic county coordinators. Read through the other material on this page to determine if such a responsibility is a good fit for you. Then, if you have some knowledge about one of the vacant counties and are interested in "applying" for the job of county coordinator, let the State Coordinator know. You needn't be located in or near a county in order to apply, although some ancestral connection and some knowledge about how to do research in that county is the norm. If you are interested in a county but don't see it listed, you can ask to be placed on the waiting list should that county become available in the future. In the near future, the waiting list will be publically posted. * Bonneville * Clearwater * Custer * Elmore * Gooding * Jefferson * Lemhi * Lincoln * Minidoka We have other counties that are being temporarily coordinated as special assignments. If you have a special interest in one of the following, you can notify us of that. Once some needed repairs have been made, these counties may be moved to the "vacancy" list. Some may be retained by those with the current special assignment. * Adams * Fremont * Madison
