    3. Mitch I am interested in the fire proof cabinet, how do you keep it cool enough for the drive? I have 4 externals and without centeral air have to run a AC in my office to keep everything cool, (including myself). I back everything up on a second computer that I turn on every 3 days, virus check and back up. I also have 2 back up hard drives in main computer and online backup. One loss taught me to backup and backup (ok so I a obsessive). Bonner and Bannock are hanging in this month while I work on other things. 3. Checking in for Ada and Canyon counties. Neither got much attention this month due to the Archives rebuild. I'll be back at them soon. I currently use Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 as a web editor and have been a Dreamweaver user for eight years. This is my FTP client as well. I have a copy of my county sites on my PC along with a copy of the Archives. They get backed up onto two external hard drives about every three days. One external drive is kept in a fire proof cabinet. 3. I'm afraid I have been a slacker in February. Too much work and no time for play! I am still working on re-doing the Kooskia Cemetery. Should have it done and back online soon. Since I took on the site in 2004 I have been using MS Frontpage 2000 as my web software. Any future sites I do , I may try to use my Dreamweaver software. I keep a complete copy of my site on my local computer. I use the free WS-FTP Pro client to transfer modified and new pages to the online website. 1. [IDGEN] March Check In - Butte & Camas Counties
    2. Joe Markovich
    3. Greetings All: Checking in for March. Spring, warm weather, and green are hopefully just around the corner . I live in Northern Indiana in a rural area Lake effect snow can really pile it up!!! *FTP Program:* I use File Zilla for my FTP. This application is very fast and is updated frequently. *Web Site Editor: * I use TreePad Business edition for my editor. I discovered this application by accident about 5 years ago. TreePad is entirely self contained, easy to use and is very fast. TreePad offers the unique ability to sort tables either by rows or columns and the tree portion itself can be sorted and moved by simple drag and drop. Large tables and other text or HTML files can be imported with ease and TP has excellent text editing features. If you can use MS Word, you can use TreePad! Lifetime license costs $44.95. The developer updates this application twice a year. I have received many positive comments on the ease of navigation and the overall look and format of my sites. I also use TreePad for several outside business clients also. It has received rave reviews from them! They love simplicity and the bargain software price! *Backups:* I maintain a working copy and a saved copy of the original site files that I acquire when I pick up a new county. Both are backed up in 2 different locations, as are my current county site files, on a daily basis. For backup software, I use Karen's Power Tools Replicator. It is free, easy to use and setup and is very fast on file backups. Nothing fancy here but the Replicator application works! *Hosting Service:* I use Just Host. They define the words "quick" and "dependable". Lightening fast FTP and connections. I have had no problem whatsoever with them!! I have several registered domains. I use GoDaddy for my registrations only. Thats my update. Pleas let me know if there are any questions on TreePad, FileZilla, GoDaddy, Karen's Power Tools or whatever! Thanks Joe

    2. Benewah, Latah & Nez Perce counties checking in...for all my coding, I use a program called "Arachnophilia". Basically just use the color feature of it to make sure I don't have as many errors in the tagging. Like to do it old school. For FTP, I use either "FileZilla FTP Client" or "FTP Commander", prefer FileZilla...it keeps better track of the queued and transferred files. Tim </HTML>

    3. I am alive and kicking (sometimes literally!) <<GRINS>> I am currently working on getting some transcriptions available on Elmore County. I just finished one precinct of the 1900 census and am working on some of the WWI Draft Registrations. I did an entire remake of the home page and added several pages (hopefully it will spark some submissions :D) I also added a search engine to the site, which should help researchers as well. I keep a copy of the files on my desktop as well and use FileZilla to upload and download pages. 3. Hello All: I would like to thank all of you for your encouragement and support. I very definitely will stay with this. In answer to Mitch: yes being a CC for one or more counties is very enjoyable. Its also an enjoyable learning experience for any CC who takes on a county that he or she may not know a lot about. There has been some discussion on the search engine on the state page. I encourage anyone that is interested to try http://www.atomz.com. This is much better then Free Find and has a nice user interface that makes it easy to manage multiple county sites plus it automatically does a link check when it indexes the site. It also has a customizable scheduler, etc. I use AtomZ on all my sites. Joe Mitch Ryder wrote: > Good to hear you are staying with us, Joe! 1. [IDGEN] FYI: Idaho Gazetteer Update
    2. Mike St. Clair/ST
    3. A little more than half of the "A" section of the gazetteer is now completed. The completed entries include alternate names for the same community, county it's contained in, geographic coordinates, altitude, USGS map name, a Google Map link to that place, and a brief description. It includes historic places that no longer exist, such as ghost towns, as far as I have been able to determine them. I've done all the Elmore County places, and all of A up to Amalga. Most of the rest of the gazetteer B-Z includes only the names, alternate names, and the county. Suggestions for improvement are welcome at any time, including places that should be added.
