She was born Dec. 1, 1923, in Preston, Idaho, daughter of J. Lavon Larson and Mae Bishop Larson. She graduated from Preston High School. She married Fred Lavoy Andersen on April 10, 1940, in the Logan LDS Temple, after which they moved to California. Over the next few years they lived in Oakland, Calif., Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and Preston. Fred and Dorius purchased an Arctic Circle in Preston and ran it for 35 years before they retired. The last few years of her life, she and Fred resided in St. George, Utah. Dorius was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While in Coeur d' Alene, she helped organize the first Primary there. She loved teaching children and taught many classes in Primary and Sunday School over the years. She also spent many hours extracting names. She and Fred and the extraction group they were in charge of extracted some quarter million names in Preston and a similar amount while they were in St. George. On many nights when she could not sleep she would get up and work on checking names for accuracy. Surviving is a daughter, Judy Coburn of Brigham City, Utah; son, Bruce Andersen of Logan; daughters, Nadene Murphy of Preston and Lanette Gibson of San Antonio, Texas; 33 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death is her husband, Fred Lavoy Andersen; a brother, Theo; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, in the Preston North Stake Center, 310 N. State Street. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be in the Glendale Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be sent to the family at www.webbmortuary.com.
