He was born June 11, 1923, in West Jordan, Utah, to Rue Matthews and Annie Rebecca Clossner Leak. He grew up on a dairy farm in West Jordan, Utah, with his two older brothers, Glenden and Max. He attended and graduated from Jordan High School in 1941, where he was active in many school organizations, including FFA and band. Jim met his sweetheart, LaRae M. Marett in 1946, and they were married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on August 18, 1949. Together they raised four boys, David Gary, Kevin and Tom. Jim shared his testimony of the LDS Church by serving in the Western States Mission from 1947-1949, West Jordan Stake Missionary with his wife 1951-1952, and in April 1995-October 1996, he served with LaRae in the Macon, Georgia Mission. In addition to his missions he served in many church callings, but he especially loved serving as a temple officiator in the Logan Temple. Jim was a lifetime dairy farmer in West Jordan, Utah, then in Weston, Idaho, where he relocated with his family in 1972. He loved working with his family. Hobbies included carpentry, gardening, and spending time with family, traveling, and most recently he spent much of his time reading. Jim had a very keen sense of humor that will never be forgotten. He is survived by his wife LaRae, of Weston; children, David James (Janeen) Leak, Casa Granda, Ariz., Gary Lynn (Shauna) Leak, Weston, Idaho, Ross Kevin (Jeanne) Leak, Parker, Colo., Thomas Kyle (Juanita) Leak, Annapolis, Md.; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 6, 2008, in the Weston First Ward Chapel, with Bishop Alan Campbell conducting. Friends may call Friday, Sept. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 109 East Oneida in Preston and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the West Jordan Cemetery, in West Jordan, Utah, where there will be a short graveside service at approximately 3 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.webbmortuary.com.
