Born April 27, 1913, in Richmond, Utah. Married Regina Weaver December 23 1937 in the S.L. Temple. She died 1979. Married Dorothy Stevens, December 20, 1980 in the S.L. Temple. Survived by wife, Dorothy Merrill and children: Nedra (Dennis) Layne, Minn.; Carolyn (Eric) Shumway, Tonga; Ralph G. (Billie Jo), Bountiful; Rex W. (Ann), Sandy; Cindy (Mark) Henderson, Kaysville. Brothers: Jed, Clifford, Richard, Israel, Lloyd, Parry, Calvin and sister Pauline M.R. Hill; 29 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: wife, Regina Weaver; son, Lee D. Merrill; parents Ralph D and Lucile Stoddard Merrill; sister, Dona Lue Harris and brothers, Owen, Windsor, and Aquilla. He taught music and math at Roosevelt Jr. High. Received Purple Heart as U.S. Naval Officer, World War II. Served 75 years in Scouting (Silver Beaver Awa! rd). Volunteer docent LDS Museum of History and Art, 20 years. Active in church callings including Bishop. Mission to Vermont, 1981. Active in civic affairs, caucus leader and delegate. Chairman of local and state music organizations. Sang in summer opera and Swanee Male Chorus. Manager, Wasatch Manor. Interests: fishing, hunting, nature, photography, world events. Funeral Saturday June 14, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at 21st North Ward, 2nd Ave. and K Street, SLC. Viewing 6-8 p.m. Friday at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple SLC and 9:30 -10:30 a.m. prior to service. Interment: Whitney Idaho cemetery. Thanks to Eli and Carlos and Care Givers Support Hospice for their kind and loving care.
