He was born January 6, 1923 in Riverdale, the third son and fourth child of Briant S. and Margaret Bingham Jacobs. He was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1946-48, mostly in the South Pacific. Chariton married Fay Hamblin on January 26, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He graduated from Utah State University in Logan, and taught school in Grace, Idaho for 10 years. The family then moved to Portland, Oregon for one year where he attended a special academic year institute receiving his Masters Degree in counselor training. He returned to Utah and worked as a counselor in the Davis School District for 26 years. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Chariton and Fay accepted a mission call to serve in the England South Mission from 1988-89.When they returned home, they served as ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple for 12 years. Surviving are his wife, Fay, of 59 years of Ogden; six children, Jeffrey (Louise) Jacobs, Hastings, NE; Adele (Ron) Young, Sacramento, CA; Janette (Dallas) Tolman, Salem, ID; Alan (Beverley) Jacobs, Syracuse; Kevin (Debbie) Jacobs, Riverton, UT; Valerie (Dana) Johnson, Layton; 25 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Bingham Jacobs, Salt Lake City; David Jacobs, Washington Terrace; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Adam Aranthon and his wife Beth, one sister, Elsie and brother-in-law, Eldon Bennett. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Monday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Lindquist's Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
