He was born Dec. 25, 1925, in Preston, Idaho, to Ezra and Louisa Barthlome Martin. He leaves behind a wife of forty-seven years, Joene Evans Martin, and their children, Kelly (Debbie) Martin of Preston, Kenna (Justin) Sharp of Preston, Rex (Dava) Martin of Farson, Wyoming, Deena (Chris) Christianson of Farson, Wyoming and JoDawn (John) Edwards of Preston; 27 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Johnny Martin of Preston; a sister, Betty (Tate) Smith of Logan, Utah; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Don was raised in Preston and graduated from Preston High School in 1946. He joined the U.S. Army in 1946 and served until 1952. He met the love of his life, Joene Evans, and they were married on July 7, 1961, in Preston, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. He did several different jobs throughout his life, but the one he loved the most was running his restaurant with his wife and family. He was an Exalted Ruler of the Preston Elks Lodge two different times. He loved to help with Elks activities. He also loved camping, fishing, hunting with the guys, cutter races and rodeos. He loved cooking for church events and his family. He also enjoyed attending the temple. Don will be missed greatly by family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ezra Dee Martin; and by two grandsons, Jacob Kelly Martin and Aaron Spackman. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Whitney Second Ward Chapel, with Bishop Brandon Stephenson conducting. Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, and on Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Military rites and interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.
