John was born on February 14, 1925, in Malad, the son of the late John J. and Leona Jones Williams, also of Malad. John married Verlene Dives June 12, 1947, in Malad, Idaho. He was a high priest for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He taught school for two years in Franklin, Idaho, and an additional 31 years in Henderson, Nevada, as a math teacher and a coach. When John wasn't teaching, he enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, bowling, participating and watching all sports. He is survived by his wife, Verlene Dives Williams of Malad; two sons and two daughters, John (Sharon) Williams, Gary (Rosy) Williams, both of Henderson, Nev., Janalee (Tom) Walters of Moses Lake, Washington, and Lesa Young of Corvallis, Oregon. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 22 greatgrandchildren; four sisters, Mary Delene Edwards of Salt Lake City, Ila Mae (Wynn) John of Portage, Utah, Bonnie (Hugh) Johnson of Odgen, Utah, and Rosalee (Tyndale) Evans of Downey, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters, three brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, one nephew and two nieces. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2008, at noon at the Malad LDS Sixth Ward Chapel, 400 N. 200 W. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Malad, Idaho, and on Thursday at the funeral home from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior the service. Burial will take place at Malad Cemetery, with military rites performed by the American Legion Ernest M. Jones, Post No. 65.
