Coburn, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away at the age of 80 on May 22, 2008 at a local hospital from injuries suffered in a fall. He had been battling cancer again the last eight months. Neil was born Feb. 19, 1928 in Weston, Idaho to Clayton and Vesta Coburn. He was the third of nine children. Neil married Neva Louise Malloy in Reno, Nev. on June 3, 1950. Their two children, Diana and Curtis were both born while Neil worked as a Master Sergeant jet mechanic at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nev. Neil and his brother Joe had a barber shop for many years at the Collister Shopping center in Boise. He was a volunteer and then full time fire fighter, later becoming the Fire Marshal for the Cole-Collister Fire Department, which is now North Ada County Fire Department. Neil loved hunting, fishing and especially anything to do with horses. After retirement he was even more involved in various organizations associated with horses such ! as the Western Riding Club, Idaho Horse Council, Idaho Quarter Horse Association, Gem County Quarter Horse Association and several others. He served as the Western Idaho Fair Light Horse Superintendent for 22 years and was the coordinator for the Idaho Expo Round Pen Challenge for the last several years. Neil is survived by his wife, Neva of Middleton; daughter Diana (Randy) Hone of Boise; son Curtis Coburn of Eagle; siblings, Valene Nicolls of Boise, Joe (Wanda) Coburn of Middleton, Clifford Coburn of Ola, Janet (Pat) Carlock of Sweet, Brad (Kandy) Coburn of Dos Palos, Calif., sister-in-law Vivian Bowns, brother-in-law Delbert Malloy, both of Nyssa, Ore., and Cecile Coburn of New York; grandchildren, Jessica (Barry) Croker of Dayton, Ohio, Justin (Tiffany) Hone of Boise, Tyler (Katie) Hone of Kuna, Ben (Katy) Hone of Boise, Brian Hone of Boise, Casey and Chad Coburn of Horseshoe Bend; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Clayton and Vesta;! siblings and spouses, Jay (Louise) Coburn of Middleton, LaPriel (Geor ge) Johnston of New York, Dennis Coburn of New York; in-laws Jim and Audrey Malloy, brothers-in-law, Alfred Evans and Chet Bowns, and sister-in-law Leola Malloy, all of Nyssa, Ore. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 27 at 1 p.m., at The Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints, 22500 Lansing Lane, Middleton, Idaho, with viewing beginning at 12 noon. Interment will follow at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise. Arrangements are under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise. Published in the Idaho Statesman on 5/25/2008.
