He was born August 4, 1918 in Mink Creek, Idaho the oldest son of Hyrum Wilford and Agnes Watson Jepsen. He grew up on a ranch, graduated from Preston (Idaho) High School and later served an LDS mission in California. He returned to California to work as a dairy farmer. While there he met his eternal companion, Evelyn Butler, from Ogden, Utah. They were married September 29, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They moved back to the Ogden area where they raised their family and lived the rest of his life. Herman was a skilled craftsman. He was a custom truck body builder for Williamson Body and Equipment Company. He retired after 40 years. Dad loved fishing and deer hunting. He was part of a very loyal group of hunting friends that gathered to hunt, camp, tell stories, and enjoy the deer herds of the northern Utah Mountains. He also loved taking his family camping and taught them to love the outdoors. He loved working for his church. He served in many bishoprics, high councils and as bishop of the Ogden 54th Ward. He enjoyed working in youth programs, especially the Boy Scouts of America. He served as President of one of the local scout districts and worked raising funds to support local scouting programs. He received the Silver Beaver Award in appreciation for his dedicated service to local scouting. Following his retirement, Herman and Evelyn served for several years as ordinance workers in the Ogden LDS Temple until his health began to fail. He is survived by his wife Evelyn; children Loren H. (Dian) Jepsen, Wayne H. (Jenene) Jepsen, Janet (Kirk) Urry, Denise (Wayne) Hunt; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters Phyllis Steneck, Vera Adams, Donald Jepsen, Arlene Warburton and Hyrum "Bud" Jepsen. Herman was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Madoline Jepsen and Ruth Jensen, and two brothers, James and Vern. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Rock Cliff 3rd Ward, 236 Porter Ave.(550 E), Ogden, Utah. Friends may call on Tuesday at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church prior to the service from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m. Interment, Myers Evergreen Memorial Park.
