Born December 16, 1918 in Preston, ID to Harley and Mable Carpenter Greaves. Graduated from Preston High School in 1937. He also graduated from the University of Idaho in 1941. He was a captain in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945. He attended Idaho State from 1946-1947, then studied at George Washington University School of Medicine from 1947-1951. Worked his internship at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City where he met his future wife, June. He completed his general residency in Ventura, CA, and his surgical residency at Holy Cross and LDS Hospitals. Married Agnes June Howarth on January 21, 1954 in Salt Lake City, UT. Worked at Virginia Mason and VA Hospitals in Seattle, WA from 1955-1960, Vacaville Correctional Facility Hospital, CA from 1961-1964. Became board qualified from the American Board of Surgery in 1964. Moved to Salt Lake City in 1965 to work as a general surgeon at Cottonwood H! ospital and set up a private practice. He was a member of the Holladay Rotary Club for over 35 years with 33 years of perfect attendance. He was honored as Utah Rotarian of the Year 2006 and a Paul Harris Fellow. Dr. Greaves was deeply loved for his way of living through example and also for his compassion and care toward others. "He loved his patients." Survived by sons, Keith (Elaine) Howarth Greaves; Kevin John Greaves; granddaughter, Mica. Preceded in death by his wife of 48 years; parents; step-mother, Ellen B. Greaves and brother, Harley. Funeral services will be held Wed., October 15, 2008 at 12 noon at Cottonwood 14th Ward, 2080 East 5165 South Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 Highland Dr. and on Wednesday one hour prior to services at the church.
