He had recently undergone surgery to remove a brain tumor. He was born June 19, 1950, in Riverside, Calif., to George Sylvester and Elaine Brown Whiting. He married Lea Ann Crookston in January of 1980. They were later divorced. He was active in the LDS church and held a calling as a greeter in the Preston 7th Ward. He was employed by Big J's as a fry cook. He enjoyed the outdoors and liked hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed photography and collected matchbox tractors and cars as hobbies. He also served in the Air Force for four years. He is survived by a son, James Curtiss Whiting of Boise, Idaho; a sister, Tina (Glenn) Smedley of Preston; a brother George (Vickie) Whiting, Panguitch, Utah; many nieces and nephews; one grandson Owen Hudson Allen; and his ex-wife Lea Ann Crookston. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, in Preston, with Bishop Phil Abrams conducting. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Webb Funeral home and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday also at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.
