Nelson, 83, longtime resident of McCammon, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, April 3, 2008, at his home surrounded by his loving family following a lingering illness. He was born June 8, 1924, in Treasureton, Idaho, a son of Frank and Cara Dell Barnes. He attended school in Treasureton. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was involved in the D-Day Normandy invasion in France. On October 24, 1946, he married Juantele Atkinson in Franklin, Idaho. They lived in Pocatello for nine years, and Alton worked at the Union Pacific Railroad for a short time and then for J.R. Simplot Company. He then went to work for FMC where he worked for 30 years retiring as a foreman. They moved to McCammon in 1955. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, camping and horses. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church. Survivors include: His wife, Juantele Nelson, McCammon, 5 sons, Tim (Mary) Nelson, Pocatello; Robert(Molly) Nelson, McCammon; Danny (Shelley) Nelson, McCammon; Hal Dean (Patricia) Nelson, Blackfoot, Idaho; Brooks (Debbi) Nelson, Arimo, Idaho; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 brothers. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at 1 p.m at the McCammon L.D.S. Stake Center with Bishop Roger Morris, of the Mountainview Ward officiating. Interment will be in the Norton Cemetery in McCammon. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church.
