He was born March 2, 1917, to Charles Pinson and Lucy Cartwright Pinson in Preston, Idaho. Don graduated from high school and LDS seminary in 1935. He was taught the electrical business by his father, who owned and operated the Pinson Electric Co. He became a licensed electrical contractor at the age of 19 and co-owner of the business. He began working for Utah Power and Light during the depression where he served on a temporary basis doing contract work. In 1941, he joined Utah Power and Light full time. He became a lineman, troubleman and serviceman. He wired the first all-electric home in Preston, Idaho. In 1959, Don went into management. He served as district manager in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, for five and a half years. He transferred to Smithfield, where he also served as district manager. He retired from Utah Power and Light in 1979, after 39 years of company service. While employed with Utah Power and Light, he took a temporary leave of absence to serve in the U.S. Navy for one year. Don married Vera May Kirkbride July 19, 1939. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. After Don's retirement in 1979, he volunteered for the Forest Service and traveled to various locations in the Western U.S. He loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He was known and loved by his grandchildren for his repertoire of hilarious stories (some of them true!) Of all his life's accomplishments and honors, he was most proud of his wonderful family. Don is survived by his wife, Vera; children, Bonnie (Alma) Winward, Kathleen (Ronald) Rasmussen, Addie (Paul) Smith, Quin (Janet) Pinson and Patricia (Mark) Sprunt. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Two great-great-grandsons preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Smithfield LDS 17th Ward Chapel, 345 E. 300 South, Smithfield. Friends may call at the Nelson Funeral Home in Smithfield, 85 S. Main, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, and Wednesday from 10 to 11:40 a.m. at the church. Internment will be at the Smithfield City Cemetery. The family extends their deepest appreciation for the many kind and thoughtful expressions of love. Condolences may be extended online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com
