She was born Sept. 18, 1913, in North Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Thomas Morgan and Ellen Wickens Thomas, the 9th of 11 children. At age three, she moved to Oxford, Idaho, with her newly widowed mother and family and grew up attending area schools. She was always thrilled to say that Harold B. Lee had been her principal. She married William Ariel Hawkes on Oct. 7, 1931, in the Logan Temple. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1996. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in all capacities asked of her. She taught English at USU and English and Spanish at Preston High School having prepared herself by earning a Master's Degree at Utah State University. She prepared thousands of excellent meals and charmed many hearts through her long years of service to her family, church, and community. She loved to travel and made friends easily wherever she went. Genevieve was a charter member of the Pickwick Club. She loved the temple and did many hours of family history research. She served a full-time mission with her husband to Southern California and a full-time mission teaching missionaries at the MTC in Provo, Utah. She is survived by five sons and three daughters, William Howard (Colleen) Hawkes, Kaysville, Utah; Vaughn Thomas (Arlene) Hawkes, Orem, Utah; Rebecca (Dean) Pearson, Cedar City, Utah; Richard Blair (Valoy) Hawkes, Malad, Idaho; J. Stanley (LoyLyn) Hawkes, Logan, Utah; James Thomas (Jan) Hawkes, Orem, Utah; Sally Jane (Kelly) Graham, Bothell, Washington; Elizabeth (David) Carlson, Woodinville, Washington; 47 grandchildren, 65 great-grand-children, and by a sister, Phyllis Larsen, Tremonton, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband, by a son, by her parents, by two great-grandchildren, and all of her siblings except one. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 11, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. in the Preston Seventh Ward Chapel, 155 N. 2nd W., Preston, with Bishop Thane Goodrich conducting. Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the church and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. also at the church. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery. Arrangements are by Webb Funeral Home.
