He was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Preston, Idaho, the son of John Martin and Julia Ann Nelson Shaffer. He married Delma Swainston on Sept. 28, 1939, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on Sept. 19, 2000. He enjoyed fishing and riding in his truck and four-wheeler. He was a farmer and also worked for the Preston-Whitney Ditch Company. He loved family activities. He is survived by three sons and two daughters, Lynn S. (Kathie) Shaffer, Weston, Idaho, Eileen (David) Miller, Salt Lake City, Utah, Clinton (Tiffany) Shaffer, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Gwen (Randall) Wheeler, Lewiston, Utah, Wayne (LaRean) Shaffer, Smithfield, Utah; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and by three sisters, Norma Durrant, Preston, Idaho, Lois Geddes, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Helen Rice, Clifton, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delma, by a son, Larry Dean Shaffer, by a grandson, Chad Lynn Shaffer, and by a sister, Zelma Barfuss. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, in the Fairview Second Ward Chapel, with Bishop Keith Bosworth conducting. Friends may call tonight, Friday, Nov. 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.
