He was born May 6, 1918, in Preston, Franklin, Idaho, the son of Ivan Comish Larsen and Leona Julia Ellis Larsen Goodwin. He graduated from Castleford High School in 1937. Then attended Idaho State University, majoring in pharmacy. He then enlisted in the Coast Guard during World War II serving as a doctor's assistant, and became a Pharmacist Mate First Class, where he met his first wife, Maud (Penny) Brown of Logan, Utah. They married in 1943 and the marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah Temple. After the war he farmed in Castleford, Idaho, for one year, then went back to college at Utah State Agricultural College where he earned his bachelor's degree in agronomy. He used his degree working for the Soil Conservation Service in Nevada. He retired from SCS after 30 years and later worked in Water Resources and as a soil consultant in various places. His wife of 46 years died in 1988. He then married Thelma Taylor Bernardi of Filer, Idaho, in 1990 where they resided until his death. He enjoyed his family and friends, listening to music, an avid reader (donating numerous books to the Filer Library), and his greatest love was working in many positions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Leland enjoyed serving with his wife as an ordinance worker in the Boise Temple for six years. Survivors include his wife, Thelma Larsen; his children, Carl Ivan Larsen of Montana, Craig Murray (Cindy) Larsen of Utah, Chad Brian (Louise) Larsen of Utah, Terri Leona (James) Freeman of Washington; one adopted son, Gelson Larsen of Utah; two stepdaughters, Penny Rae (Larry) Walden of Twin Falls, Becky (Dan) Carter of Filer; two brothers, Nathan Ellis (Arlene) Larsen of Utah, Von J. (Jan) Goodwin of Utah; two sisters, Dona Vandaveer of Utah, Della (Dale) Ghan of Twin Falls; one son-in-law Paul Crowther of Utah; 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife and daughter, Wanda Lee Crowther, and infant brother, Clifford Frank Goodwin. Funeral services for Leland Larsen will be conducted 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Filer Stake Center, with Bishop Ray Moore, conducting. Interment will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the Logan Cemetery, Logan, Utah. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. at White Mortuary, Monday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church on Tuesday.
