Idaho State Journal 06-29-2001 WHITNEY — Barbara Joyce Kraus Spatig Swainston passed away Thursday, June 28, 2001, in Ogden, Utah, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born January 8, 1935, in Logan, Utah, the 10th of 11 children to Arnold and Hermanie Johnson Kraus. She married Boris LaGrand Spatig on June 3, 1954, in Logan, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. He died March 5, 1978. She then married Wayne C. Swainston on Dec. 6, 1985, in Elko, Nevada. She was a member of the Whitney, Idaho Second LDS Ward. She served as a spiritual living teacher, Primary teacher, cooking director, and Cub Scout leader. She loved cooking, gardening, quilting and decorating her home. She often shared her roses, baked goods and quilts with family, friends, and neighbors. She took great pride in the rose bushes and miniature roses in her yard. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Wayne C. Swainston, Preston, Idaho; her children, Janet (Richard) Hogsett, Moses Lake, Washington, Donald L. (Shari) Spatig, North Ogden, Utah, Jeffrey (Sheri) Spatig, North Logan, Utah, Laura (Tim) Thorpe, Garland, Utah, Andy Spatig, Ogden, Utah, Jennifer Spatig, Kaysville, Utah; six grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Boris LaGrand Spatig, by her parents, and by three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, July 2, 2001, in the Whitney Second Ward Chapel, with Bishop Russell Durrant conducting. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, and Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Mapleton Cemetery, Cub River, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Primary Children's Hospital.
