He was born April 7, 1924, at Preston, Idaho, the son of Hans Jacob and Violet Ransom Roholt. He married Helen Joy Paskins July 1, 1950, at Grace, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. He had worked for M.K. Construction, also as a truck driver for Union Pacific Motor Freight and as a mechanic for Monsanto Company for 31 years, retiring in 1988. Verland was a member of the Soda Springs LDS Third Ward. He had served as YMMIA counselor, Sunday school superintendent, elders’ quorum president, second and first counselor in the bishopric, high priest group leader and as a home teacher. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9141. His hobbies included his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, fishing, boating and spending winters in Overton with good friends. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He is survived by his wife, of Soda Springs; and four daughters, Christine and Jim Irving, Creswell, Oregon, Karen and David Teipelke, Boise, Idaho, KaLynne and Brad Dahle, Clarkston, Utah, and Kim and Jeff Fetters, Soda Springs. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Decka Harris, Grace, Idaho, Yvonne Steinberg and Violet (Dixie) Meigs, both of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Joyce Fowler, Grace, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Roma VonWeller and Verda Weeks, also two brothers, Hans Jacob and Elwood Ransom Roholt. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, October 22 at noon at the Soda Springs LDS Stake Center, with Bishop Ronald Myers officiating. Friends may call on Sunday evening, Oct. 21 at the Sims Funeral Home from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Monday at the stake center from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Grace Cemetery, with military graveside services. Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.
