Arlene was born in Weston, Idaho, on May 8, 1926, to Arthur Joseph and Irene Martha Lundquist Neuenswander, the oldest of five children. She was salutatorian of her graduating class. She attended LDS Business College and later worked at Cove Concrete, Parson Ready Mix, and at the Southeastern District Health Department. She married Lynn S. Porter on June 26, 1946, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were later divorced. On Jan. 10, 1998, she was married and sealed for time and all eternity to Claytor Melvin Larsen in the Logan Temple. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She received a certificate for serving 25 years in the primary organization. She served as primary president, counselor and teacher, including seven years on the stake primary board. She was a counselor and teacher in the YWMIA, where she taught the Gleaners and earned the Golden Gleaner Pin. She was music director and teacher in the Relief Society and led the Singing Mothers. She taught Gospel doctrine until her diagnoses with cancer and was a visiting teacher her entire life. Arlene was a loving mother to her six children and a devoted grandmother to her 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. She was an avid golfer and the winner of women’s club championships. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, flower gardening, music, sports and crocheting. She crocheted an afghan for each of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Claytor, Preston; children, Vivian P. Jensen, Ogden, Utah; Neal L. (Kathy) Porter, Logan, Utah; Blair A. (Carol) Porter, Preston; Scott L. Porter, Ogden; Shawna P. (Kirt) Hodges, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Jacque P. (Daniel) Craig, Bountiful, Utah; by a sister, Kerma Jones (Ron), Bountiful; and her brothers, Lavor Neuenswander (Barbara), Livermore, Calif.; Val Neuenswander (Benda), Bountiful; and Doyle Neuenswander, Seattle, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a son-in-law, Lex A. Jensen. Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, April 24, 2002, in the Preston Seventh Ward Chapel, 155 N. 200 W., with Bishop Thane Goodrich conducting. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, and Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Richmond, Utah, Cemetery. We thank our mother for her example and the memories.
