Surnames: Roholt, Poulsen, Sant Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Eg.2ADE/461 Message Board Post: Idaho State Journal, 04/13/02 THATCHER — Nels Roholt, 95, of Thatcher, passed way Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at the Caribou Memorial Hospital in Soda Springs. He was born February 16, 1907, at Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Nels Peter and Freda Elizabeth Poulsen Roholt. He was the oldest of 12 children. In 1916, he moved to Gannet, Idaho; in 1918, to Preston, Idaho; then in 1920, returned to the Thatcher and Grace area, where he had since resided. Nels married Carmen Sant on May 22, 1931, at Brigham City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. Together they had four children. Nels worked for Joe Pond on his ranch, Sant Dairy in Pocatello, and then for Utah Power, where he worked for 33 years. He retired from Utah Power as foreman in 1972. He was a member of the Thatcher LDS Ward. He loved his family, and was proud of all his grandkids. Nels is survived by his wife, Carmen, of Thatcher; one son and one daughter and their spouses, Gail and Clarice Roholt, Leona and Mark Peterson, all of Grace, Idaho; and a son-in-law, Hal Rhead of Soda Springs. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; two sisters and two brothers, Grace Hansen, Pahrump, Nevada, Iris Morrison, Jerome, Idaho, Virgil and Ila Roholt, Grace, Idaho, and Hugh and Pat Roholt, Jerome, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Eugene, and a daughter, Connie Rhead, seven brothers and sisters and one great-grandson, Wyatt DeKay. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, April 15, at noon at the Thatcher LDS Chapel, with Bishop Tod Jensen officiating. Friends may call on Sunday evening, April 14, at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs from 7 to 8 p.m., and on Monday at the Thatcher Chapel from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Thatcher Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.
