Harris Gilbert, 90, of Bancroft, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at the Caribou Memorial Hospital in Soda Springs. He was born January 1, 1912, at Whitney, Idaho, the son of James Harris and Jennie Swainston Gilbert. J. Harris married Erma Viola Simons November 10, 1938, at Logan, Utah. She passed away December 3, 2000. He was raised and educated in Bancroft, where he farmed. He was a high priest in the Bancroft LDS Second Ward. He had served an LDS mission to the northern states, had been a stake mission president, membership clerk and financial clerk for many years, and a Scout master. He had been an officiator in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple for 13 years. He was an avid fisherman; he also enjoyed hunting, BYU basketball, and loved following his grandchildren in their sports activities. Harris is survived by two sons and two daughters and their spouses, Harris S. and Carla Gilbert and Dean Simons and Barbara Gilbert, all of Bancroft, Nedra Bowles, Logan, Utah, and Edna Hobson, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho; also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; a brother and five sisters, Sidney and Joy Gilbert, Orem, Utah, Lois Rindlisbaker, Rosa Rindlisbaker, both of Bancroft, Idaho, Ina and Harold Liljenquist, Pocatello, Idaho, Emma and Elwood Parker, Buhl, Idaho, and LuDean and Wesley Maughan, Logan, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters, Heber Gilbert, Leah Wilson and Ann Hallinan. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 29, 2002, at noon at the Bancroft LDS Chapel, with Bishop Ralph Peterson officiating. Friends may call this evening, Friday, June 28 at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday at the Bancroft chapel from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.
