She was born March 29, 1917, in Whitney, Idaho, to Sylvan G. and Edna Harriet Maughan Weaver. She was raised in Whitney until the family moved to Preston, where she graduated from Preston High School in 1935. While married she lived in Fairview, Idaho from 1940 to 1947, then they moved to Inkom until the time of her death. She married DeMar Hall Gilbert on March 29, 1940, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. They were married for 62 years. Harriet worked as a receptionist for a doctor in Preston; she then worked for Sego Milk until she was married. She served on the South Bannock Library Board for several years and was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She belonged to the Farm Bureau organization and was voted Bannock County Farm Wife of the Year. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various organization such as Primary, Mutual, Sunday school and Relief Society and mostly with the music. Harriet was raised in agriculture and was reared in a musical family which fostered a lifelong love of music that she passed on to her family. She was a horsewoman from an early age and helped her husband, DeMar, work cattle many times. She was an attendant in the Preston Rodeo royalty. Harriet was intensely involved in all of her family's activities, and gave them her love, support and counsel, whether they wanted it or not. Harriet is survived by her husband, DeMar H. Gilbert of Inkom; three sons and two daughters, DeMar W. (Donna) Gilbert of Inkom, Etta Jeane Gilbert Staley of Nampa, Idaho, John Quin (Karen) Gilbert of Inkom, Todd H. (Janine) Gilbert of Inkom, and Becky (Kelly) Whitworth; and one brother, Ross M. Weaver; 25 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Weston Weaver and Grant Weaver, a sister, June Long, two grandsons, Shon B. Gilbert and Jared K. Whitworth, three granddaughters, Sheri, Amy and Stephanie Staley, and one great-granddaughter, Taylor Schweitzer. Services will be held at noon Thursday June 13, 2002, at the Inkom LDS Rapid Creek Ward. The viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, June 12 at the Inkom Rapid Creek Ward, 973 Rapid Creek Road, and from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. on Thursday. Burial will follow at the Inkom Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. Fourth Ave., Pocatello.
