He was born May 23, 1914, in Preston, Idaho, the son of William and Etta Nelson Owens. He married Ruth Purser on Oct. 4, 1942, in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized on March 21, 1944, in the Logan, Utah temple. He loved farming, nature, a good dog, music, and being at home with his family. Richard and his wife have 11 children, 59 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Fairview; seven daughters and four sons, Darrelyn (Elroy) McDermott, Cheney, Wash., Karen (Robert) Coleman, Terreton, Idaho, Kaylene (Marvin) Golightly, Preston, Gay (John) O’Hara, Bountiful, Utah, Richard E. (Peggy) Owens, Preston, Janet (Kim) Williams, Firth, Idaho, Debbie (Chuck) Sistrunk, Preston, Farris (Elizabeth) Owens, Vancouver, Wash., Angela (David) Esplin, Firth, Idaho, Marshal Owens, Preston, Vance (Denise) Owens, Brookings, South Dakota; 59 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, by four sisters, Serena Snyder, Berniece Smith, Gladys Merrill, Wanda Cole, and by three brothers, Eldred, Morgan, and Charles Owens. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Fairview Second Ward Chapel, with Bishop Keith Bosworth conducting. Friends may call Wednesday, June 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, and Thursday from 9:30 a! .m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
