Alder, 77, died suddenly Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at the Franklin County Medical Center in Preston. He was born March 24, 1930, on the family farm in Preston, to Alfred and Jane Jenkins Alder. He grew up in Preston and was drafted during the Korean War. When he returned, he married Ardis A. Anderson in the Logan LDS Temple. They were happily married for 54 years. Val graduated from USU with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked mainly for the Boeing Co. and retired after 32 years. Val and Ardis lived in Sugar City, Los Angeles, Santa Maria and Kaysville. His retirement led them back to the family farm in Preston, where he again lived and worked his beloved farm. Val was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, but his favorite calling was "visiting." He was everyone's friend, and he "cherished the ladies." He is survived by his wife, Ardis, of Preston; one son and two daughters, Ryan Val Alder of Salt Lake City, Utah; Leanne (Craig) Smith of Bedford, Wyo.; Marianne (Steve) Kittleson of Preston; and grandchildren, Ryan; Kathryn; Emylia; Heather; Colin; Ian and Erin. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, in the Whitney 1st Ward Chapel with Bishop Jeff Leonard conducting. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Interment will be in the Whitney Cemetery.
