He was born July 14, 1913 at Preston, Idaho to William H. and Edna Carson Twitchell. His early years were spent ranching at Mt. Putnum until 1935. After graduating from Blackfoot High School, Wendell attended Idaho State Southern Branch and went on to graduate from Utah State in 1938. He married Ruth Caine of Logan, Utah December 14, 1939. She preceded him in death March 11, 1973. Wendell served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II from 1943 to 1946. Wendell returned to the Idaho Fish and Game Department for a 36 year career, retiring in 1975. He married Wanda Hunter of Soda Springs in 1975. She preceded him in death November 2000. He enjoyed 27 years of hunting fishing, horse races, attending ISU Sports activities and having coffee with his Elks Club friends at the Elks Club in the mornings. Wendell was inducted into the ISU Hall of Fame in 1982. He was a past president of the Idaho Peace Officers Association, a member of the Elks Club, a member of the ISU Bengal Foundation and the selections committee for the Sports Hall of Fame. Wendell is survived by: 2 brothers, Clyde Twitchell of Shelley, Bill (Jane) Twitchell of Salt Lake City; 2 daughters, Karen Halford of Rigby and Kathy (Robert) Hoffman of New Jersey; 6 grandchildren; Kent (Paula) Halford of Idaho Falls, Kevin (Nicole) Halford of Rexburg, Trent (Kristi) Halford of Salt Lake City, Tammi (Jeff) Travis of Colorado, Brian Hoffman of Maryland and, Kristina Hoffman of Colorado; 9 great grandchildren. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, 3 brothers, and 1 sister. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. in the Henderson-Cornelison Funeral Chapel, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery, Blackfoot with Military Graveside Rites. Memorials may be made in Wendell’s name to the Elks Lodge or the ISU Bengal Foundation.
