He was born June 7, 1929, in Logan, Utah, the son of James Charles and Wynona Pearl Saunders Maughan. He attended the one-room school house in Benson, Utah, as the only student in his age group, and he also attended North Cache High School. He married Marva Lou Smith on September 2, 1948, in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was sealed in the Logan temple on Sept. 22, 1961. She preceded him in death on Sept. 18, 1997. He worked at Cranney Chevrolet, Palmers and Kellers Tire. He was the first certified mechanic in Preston, Idaho. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, latch-hooking rugs and card playing. He loved his grandchildren. The hunting trips up Soda Springs at Diamond Creek with his buddies was a highlight of his year. He also enjoyed spending time at their camp site up Cub River with his wife and family. He is survived by three sons and two daughters, DeVerl (Joy) Maughan, Smithfield, Utah, DeMar (Lindy) Maughan, Providence, Utah, Roxann Joseph, Preston, Idaho, Lynette (Gary) Campbell, Las Vegas, Nevada, Jeffrey R. (Traci) Maughan, Preston, Idaho; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; by two sisters, Wynona Steele, Benson, Utah, Orpha Manning, Roy, Utah; and by a brother, Calvin (LaRee) Maughan, Benson, Utah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marva, by his parents, by a sister, Francis Maughan, a brother, Arden S. Maughan, by two grandsons, Chancey Layne Maughan and Matthew Charles Owen, and by two brothers-in-law, Clyde Steele and Owen Manning. Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, March 13, 2002, in the Preston South Stake Center, with Bishop Robert Miller conducting. Friends may call tonight, Tuesday, March 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, and Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the stake center. Burial will be in the Preston Cemetery.
