She was born near Weston, Idaho to Joseph and Nola Baker Hansen on April 2, 1916. She grew up in Cornish, Utah, and graduated from North Cache High School. Edna married Carl A. Baker Sr. in Pocatello, Idaho, July 23, 1936. He was a construction engineer, and they lived in various places. Later, they ran an auction for several years in Wapato, WA. They opened a horse tack store in Moses Lake just before Carl passed away in 1969. She married Loyd Powers in Clarkston, WA. on July 2, 1970. They lived near Wapato, WA. and had a small farm and a rodeo arena. After Loyd passed away in 1988, Edna moved to Kennewick, WA. To be near her daughter and son-in-law, Edna Mae and Doug Hook. Edna was an astute business woman and took care of the books for her husband's business when he was self-employed. She took care of all her own business after becoming single. Collecting beautiful china and unique glassware was one of Edna's hobbies. She also loved pretty clothes and in her younger years made many of her own dresses and also clothes for her nieces. She was an excellent cook and made the best salmon in the world. Because Edna was a good friend, she had many good friends. She always wanted to make sure you had a good time when you were with her. She always maintained a positive attitude and would never talk about anything negative. In her older years, her most common answer was, "I think I feel a little better today than I did yesterday." She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was active in several capacities. She went through the new Columbia River Temple for the first time when she was 87 years old. She was preceded in death by her son Carl A. Baker Jr. and a great granddaughter Kathleen Rich. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Viva Jean and Garold Hyer of Taylor, UT, and their children Bill & Linda Byram and Steve & Myrt Hyer of South Weber, Lindsey & Bobbi Hansen of Willard, Val & Judy Hyer of Huntsville, and Doug & Sue Hyer of Pemberville, Ohio. Her daughter and son-in-law Edna Mae & Doug Hook, and their children Anthony (Tony) Hook and Charlene Hughes, all of Kennewick, Washington and daughter-in-law Eunice Baker, and her children, Dean Baker, Pamela Bryant, Shirley Willey and Debra Fitzgerald, all of Southern California and daughter Darlene Mattke of Ogallah, Kansas, and her children Dan & Marsha Hayes and Edward & LaDonna Mattke and many great grand children, great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survived Edna. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel in Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd., where friends may call Tuesday from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
