She bravely met the challenge of cancer, like she met many challenges in her life, with a quiet determination, style and class. She enjoyed life to the very end. Her final hours were spent surrounded by those she loved, even her beloved kitty “Pierre.” She was born Aug. 18, 1944, in Franklin, Idaho to Victor Lowe Dunkley and Elaine Kent Dunkley. She had a happy childhood with her sister, Dixie and brother, Kent. After graduating from Preston High School she attended Utah State University and earned a teaching degree. She quickly put her education to good use in her first teaching assignment in Riverside, Calif. It was in Riverside where she met Richard Medina. They were soon married and were blessed with two daughters Lezlee and Lori. She raised her children with nurturing and love. She shaped their lives with her quiet elegance. Paulette made many friends in her community of Redlands, especially in the field of education. She was an elementary school teacher for the Redlands Unified School District for 22 years. Paulette loved teaching and was committed to a life of service and giving of her time and many talents. Nothing gave her more pleasure than teaching those beautiful students and watching their personalities develop. She leaves behind a great legacy as seen in the happy productive lives of the many students she taught at Smiley Elementary School. Paulette was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is survived by her husband, Richard Medina; her daughters, Lezlee Medina-Shaughnessy and Lori Medina; her kitty, Peirre; her mother, Elaine Dunkley; her brother, Kent Dunkley; and her sister, Dixie Hunsaker. She is preceded in death by her father, Victor Lowe Dunkley. A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at the Franklin Cemetery in Franklin, Idaho at noon. Services are under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home, Logan.
