"Bill" McKay, 70, of Boise, passed away on Dec. 18, 2007 at home from Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS). Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5900 Castle Drive, Boise. Graveside Services will follow at 4 p.m. at the Hagerman Cemetery, Hagerman, Idaho. Services are under the direction of the Relyea Funeral Chapel. Bill was born Jan. 4, 1937, in Preston, Idaho to Hyrum and Vera McKay. Bill attended Utah State University on a Basketball Scholarship, and later transferred to Rick's College with scholarships in basketball, football, and baseball. After serving a L.D.S. Mission in New York, Bill returned and married Lou Ann Pugmire of Hagerman, Idaho on June 11, 1959 in the Logan Temple. After his marriage to Lou Ann, Bill started his teaching career where he touched many lives over the next 15 years. Bill taught students in Wendell, Bliss and South Jr. High (Boise). While living in Hagerman, Bill ! and Lou Ann were blessed with two children, a daughter Marcia and a son Marc. Bill finished his teaching career in Roseburg, Ore., where he taught math and coached football. While teaching in Roseburg, Bill also furthered his education and received his master's degree from Western Oregon State. During this time, Bill and Lou Ann were blessed with daughter Lisa. Bill enjoyed various outdoor activities, which included golfing, hunting, crabbing on the Oregon Coast and his greatest passion, salmon and steelhead fishing on the Umpqua River. After leaving the Roseburg area, Bill returned to the Umpqua every year during the salmon run. In 1977, Bill and his family returned to Boise after being offered a position at Idaho Power in the Property Accounting Department. Bill remained with Idaho Power until he retired in 1997. In November of 1995, Bill helped his family fulfill a dream of opening a furniture and decorative accessory store, "FAUST". In later years, Bill continued to enj! oy playing golf and supporting his grandchildren in school and! sportin g activities. Bill's favorite day of the week was Thursday when he would join his friends for a few hands of poker. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His quiet, loving presence and sense of humor will be missed by his family and friends. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Lou Ann Pugmire McKay; daughters, Marcia (Blas) Elguezabal, and Lisa (Doug) DeKerchove; brother, Devere (Sharon) McKay; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was a loving grandfather to Brady, Kylee, Colby, Carli, Riley, Douglas and Hanna. Bill was preceded in death by his son Marc. Published in the Idaho Statesman on 12/20/2007.
