He was born June 13, 1937 in Preston, Idaho to Thomas Dermont and Hildred (Day) Olsen. He graduated from Boise Senior High School in 1955, and during his high school days, he enlisted in the Army National Guard where he completed training from 1952-1955. Dennis was then honorably discharged in 1962. He worked for Good Year Tire for a few years before starting his career with King Construction; building bridges and overpasses from Boise to Twin Falls for ten years. During this time, he learned a career and compassion for bridge construction and his skills were unsurpassed by most people. A & R Construction is where he made his way up the ladder, until he became a superintendent, where he built bridges all over the Northwest area, including White Bird Bridge and the Salmon River. Dennis retired from A & R Construction and will be missed by all that knew and loved him. He touched many hea! rts with his wisdom and knowledge. Dennis married Joannn Carson in 1959 and the two were divorced in 1972. He later met the love of his life, Darlene Rasmussen, and they were wed in 1973. They just celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary this year. Dennis was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was ordained a Deacon in 1949 and an Elder in 1956. He lived his life by following the steps of Jesus Christ. Oley enjoyed life by quarter horse barrel racing, being a rodeo clown, raising cows, playing his harmonica and was a Golden Glove boxer. He had a great passion and love for singing, telling stories and playing jokes. Surviving family members include his wife, Darlene Olsen; sisters, Lynn Morse, Djon Talbot, Maryann Marion and Joan Maisey; children, Lody Glyn Jones, Gina Olsen, Wayne Olsen, Andy Mays, Eddie Mays, Cliff Mays and Debbie Sutton; grandchildren, Kelli Jo, Cody, TJ, Michael, Amanda, Kristopher, Brandin and Eian; and great-grand! daughters, Rylei and Bailey. He was preceded in death by his p! arents a nd sister, Larae Olsen. Viewing will be Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007 from 12-3 p.m. at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home. The funeral will then take place Monday, Dec. 17, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Vassar-Rawls with burial to follow at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens. A potluck dinner will be held immediately at the Masonic Lodge, 1122 18th Ave. in Lewiston. Our beloved husband, brother and father is going to be greatly missed by all his family and many friends.
