He was born Jan. 18, 1917, in Wellsville, Utah, the youngest of five children of John C. and Catherine Hall Brenchley. Reed was raised in Wellsville and attended Cache County public schools. He graduated from Utah State Agricultural College in 1939 and later received his master's from Utah State University. He married Nell Bryson of Providence, Utah, on Aug. 30, 1939, in the Salt Lake Temple. He taught in the public schools of Smithfield, Utah; Arimo, Idaho, and Preston, Idaho. He served as principal of Preston High School from 1946 to 1965 and as a guidance counselor from 1965 to 1981, at which time he retired with 41 years of public school service. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He was involved in the Preston Lions and Monarch Lions Club for many years. He was active in local politics, serving as Preston city councilman and later as mayor from 1983 to 1984. He was active in the LDS Church, serving in many capacities, including scoutmaster, bishop's counselor, bishop, high councilor, stake clerk and temple sealer. From 1984 to 1985, he served with his loving wife in the Louisiana, Baton Rouge Mission. He is survived by his wife, Nell; children, Ralph (Clarene), Ephraim, Utah, Douglas (Nanette), Provo, Utah, Pat Kohler (Wallace), North Logan, Utah, John (Launa), Hyrum, Utah, LeAnn Jensen (Sheldon), Kaysville, Utah, Carol Clement (Dan), Salt Lake City, Utah, and Scott (Jan), Pocatello, Idaho; 34 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Preston 5th Ward Chapel, 213 S. 200 East, Preston, Idaho. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, Idaho and again from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the chapel prior to services. Interment, Wellsville, Utah City Cemetery
