McDermott, 78, passed away Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at his home in Clifton, Idaho, after a battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 30, 1921, to George Foster and Sarah Jane (Jennie) Fisher McDermott, in Clifton, the youngest of six children. He married Zenda Smith on Oct. 1, 1940, in Preston, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. He was one of the last real cowboys. When neighbors had a job to do with cattle, he was the first one they called and he was always willing to help. He was noted for his good horses and good horsemanship. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he held several leadership positions and was a faithful home teacher. He worked for the Forest Service for many years and was also a Range Rider. He also farmed and ranched. Lew owned and operated a hunting guide service and a guest ranch. He was known for his honesty and keeping his word. He is survived by his wife, Zenda, of 60 years, Clifton; eight living children, Bonnie (Melvin) Ball, Renton, Wash., Marilyn (Dick) Swainston, Preston, Idaho, Reta (Robert) Halverson, Roy, Utah, Michael (Meridee) McDermott, Tremonton, Utah, Nadine (Craig) Mangus, Santa Clara, Utah, Casey (Cindy) McDermott, Rigby, Idaho, Brenda (Jeffrey) Gundersen, Meridian, Idaho, and Jeffrey (Dani) McDermott, Cedar City, Utah. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Everett (Ruby) McDermott, Maple Valley, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents and by the following brothers and sisters, Fisher McDermott, Rose Hansen, Erma Christensen, and Floyd McDermott. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in the Clifton 2nd Ward Chapel with Bishop Neil Fuller conducting. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Webb Funeral Home and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Clifton Cemetery.
