Hawkes, 59, son of Leo R. and Roma L. Hawkes of Preston, Idaho, died on Oct. 17, 2000, of complications from heart surgery at Riverside Community Hospital in Riverside, Calif. Philip Hawkes was born in Preston, Idaho, and lived in Riverside, Calif., for the past 32 years. He worked for the Fontana Unified School District as a Special Education teacher for 18 years before he served as a high school counselor for 14 years. Philip served an LDS mission to Germany from 1960 to 1963. he was active in the scouting program. He was assistant academic football coach for AB Miller High. Phil was an avid reader and loved water sports and traveling. Philip E. Hawkes was survived by his wife, Roberta Jewell Hawkes; his three children, James Hawkes of Logan, David Philip Hawkes of Tempe, Ariz., Shandis Marie Hawkes of Riverside Calif.; his mother, Roma L. Hawkes of Logan; one sister, Patricia Wheeler of Turlock, Calif.; two brothers, N. Roger Hawkes of Salt Lake City, J. Robert Hawkes of Logan; and one schnauzer, Muffie. A viewing will be held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 24, 2000, at Allen-Cranney Mortuary in Logan, Utah. Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m. in the Logan City Cemetery.
