Merrill, 75, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Preston, Idaho, a son of Frank B. and Nada Morgan Merrill. He married Roma Bennett in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on Sept. 8, 1948. He resided in Soda Springs for the past 49 years. He retired from Monsanto in June of 1988 after 34 years and was part of the initial construction of the plant. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Gerald was a member of the LDS Soda Springs Third Ward. He is survived by his wife, Roma of Soda Springs; two sons and one daughter, Lynn B. and Linda Merrill, Swan Valley, Idaho; Susan and Kim Welch, Grace; Steven and Debbie Merrill, Pendleton, Oregon. He has 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are two brothers, Frank T. Merrill and Samuel M. Merrill, both of Ogden, Utah; two sisters, Noreene Nye of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Anne Whalen of San Jose, Calif. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 31, at noon at the Soda Springs First and Fifth Ward Building, located at 3rd East and 3rd South. Friends may call on Wednesday evening at the Sims Funeral Home from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Thursday at the First and Fifth Wards Building from 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery with military graveside services by the VFW Post 9141. Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.
