She was born July 30, 1920, in Whitney, Idaho, to John Ersel and Annie Jersina Jensen Swainston. She married her high school sweetheart, Dean Nelson Shaffer, on Sept. 28, 1939, in the Logan Temple. Throughout her life she enjoyed making beautiful afghans, crocheted items, cutwork pillowcases, and needlepoint which she shared with friends and family. She loved having a beautiful garden and yard. She enjoyed the time she spent traveling to several beautiful and exciting places. Her greatest joy came from being with her family. She is survived by her husband, Dean, of Preston; three sons and two daughters, Lynn (Kathie) Shaffer, Weston, Idaho, Eileen (David) Miller, Salt Lake City, Utah, Clinton (Tiffany) Shaffer, Albuquerque, N.M., Gwen (Randal) Wheeler, Lewiston, Utah, Wayne (LaRean) Shaffer, Smithfield, Utah; 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and by two sisters, Venna Herd and Fern Porter, both of Preston, Idaho. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry, by a grandson, Chad, and by a brother, John (Jack) Swainston. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, in the Fairview Second Ward Chapel with Bishop Keith Bosworth conducting. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22 at Webb Funeral Home and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Preston Cemetery.
