He lived in Oxnard, California, for 30 years before retiring to Whitney, Idaho, where he lived for the past 30 years. He was born March 25, 1907, in Preston, Idaho, the son of Thomas William and Mina Kaufman Tanner. He married Veva Nickerson on Jan. 17, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners for 60 years. He retired after 26 years as a construction superintendent for Ralph T. Viola in Oxnard, California. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved being a snowbird (spending winters in Arizona), and he enjoyed traveling and riding motorcycles, among many other activities. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Veva, this past April and by his two children, Richard Tanner and Maralyn Compton. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Pratt and Rosemary Mitchell; sons, Thomas Tanner and John Tanner; by 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and by many relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at noon in the Whitney Second Ward Chapel, with Bishop Greg Griffeth conducting. Friends may call Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Whitney Cemetery. Arrangements are by Webb Funeral Home, Preston, Idaho.
