He was born on Sept. 20, 1926, in Logan the son of Lewellyn Jeffs and Sarah Hawkins Gunnell. He married his sweetheart, Beth Smith, on Feb. 18, 1946, in the Logan Temple. He served as an Idaho State trooper for 25 years, as the Franklin County Sheriff for eight years, and as a Juvenile Probation officer for four years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in numerous callings including bishop of the Whitney Ward and he was the first stake president of the Franklin Idaho Stake. He served two missions, the first in the Western States Mission, and the second with his sweetheart in the Rochester New York Mission. He and his wife also served as temple officiators in the Logan Temple for two years. The two most important things in his life were his family and his love for the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was a wonderful patriarch and example to his family. He had the unique ability to love and serve others. He is survived by his wife, Beth Gunnell, Preston; five daughters, Linda (Gerald) Skinner, Thatcher, Idaho, Bonnie (Maurice) Nielson, Preston, Shauna Gunnell, Providence, Denise (Don) Olson, Ephraim, Teresa (Kelly) Rasmussen, Preston; 25 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Dorothy Jensen, Brigham City, Luana Fowers, Ogden; a brother, Louis (Edna) Gunnell, Providence, two brothers-in-law, Luther Victor, Ogden, and William (Bill) Parker, Ogden. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Sarabeth Nielson; two great grandchildren; and three sisters, Margaret Jensen, Velma Parker, and Ruth Victor. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at noon in the Franklin Idaho Stake Center with Bishop Kevin Sharp conducting. Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, and Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the stake center. Interment will be in the Whitney Cemetery.
