Roper, 82, of Smithfield, Utah, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at the Sunshine Terrace Rehabilitation Center in Logan, Utah, gratefully with his "sweet wife" of 62 years and beloved granddaughter by his side. He was born February 15, 1920, at Preston, Idaho. He spent most of his life on a ranch in Thatcher, Idaho, of which he said, "I wouldn't trade my experiences on the ranch for anything in this world." While attending Thatcher High School, he drew straws with a friend to take a "sweet red-headed gal," Karma Cahoon, to the Harvest Ball. After a four-year courtship, they were married in the Logan Temple on April 3, 1940. With increasing age and decreasing help to run the ranch, they sold and moved to Smithfield, Utah, in June 1976. Frank later said, "It was a very hard decision to make; but I believe we did the right thing." The transition was easy to make with wonderful friends and neighbors quickly bringing them into their circle of love. Frank is survived by his wife, Karma, and his children, Steve (Diane), Linda (Fred) and Rick (Ila) and their families providing 12 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 3 step great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at noon on Monday, July 8, 2002, at the Smithfield 17th Ward chapel at 300 S. 300 E., Smithfield, Utah. A viewing for friends and family will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, at the Allen-Cranney Mortuary, 420 E. 1800 N., Smithfield, Utah. and from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on Monday at the chapel prior to the funeral services. The family expresses their appreciation to the staff of Wing 4 at Sunshine Terrace and to Dr. Michael Stone and Dr. Fred Larson for their kindness and tender loving care, and also to the many
